Installation method of cable tray tee connector

Installing a cable tray tee involves careful planning, precise marking, secure support installation, and proper alignment to ensure safe and efficient cable routing.

Step 1: Plan the Route

Before installing a tee, review the approved shop drawings to determine the main tray route and the branch direction. Identify the location for the tee fitting, ensuring adequate clearance from walls, ceilings, and other services like HVAC ducts or pipes. Consider load capacity, cable separation, and vertical/horizontal alignment to prevent interference and maintain proper bend radius for cables .

Step 2: Mark Support Points

Use a chalk line or laser level to mark the exact positions for supports along both the main tray and the branch. Standard support spacing is typically 1.5 to 3 meters, depending on tray type and load. Mark the tee location clearly, including the centerline and connection points for the branch tray .

Step 3: Install Supports

Install wall brackets, ceiling struts, or threaded rod hangers at the marked points. Ensure supports are level and capable of handling the combined weight of the main tray, branch tray, and cables. For concrete ceilings, use drop-in anchors or unifix fittings, and verify that structural members are not drilled or compromised .

Step 4: Position and Connect the Tee

Place the tee fitting at the marked location, aligning it with the main tray and the branch direction. Use appropriate couplers or splice plates to connect the tee to the main tray and the branch tray. Ensure all bolts and fasteners are tightened securely, and the tray sections are flush and level .

Step 5: Install Cable Tray Sections

Attach the remaining tray sections to the tee, maintaining proper alignment and spacing. Check that the tray is level and straight, and that the branch tray extends in the intended direction without sagging. Use additional supports if necessary to prevent deflection .

Step 6: Grounding and Bonding

Ensure the tee and connected trays are properly grounded according to electrical codes. Install grounding straps or bonding jumpers between the tee and adjacent tray sections to maintain electrical continuity and safety .

Step 7: Final Checks

Verify that all connections are secure, supports are properly spaced, and the tray is level. Confirm that the installation allows for easy cable entry and exit, and that bend radii are maintained. Make any necessary adjustments before proceeding with cable installation . By following these steps, a cable tray tee can be installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with electrical standards, ensuring a reliable pathway for power, communication, or signal cables.
