A conductive or warning tape is usually buried above the conduit, approximately 12 inches below the surface, to aid future detection .

Cable Handling

Fiber optic cables are sensitive to excessive pulling tension, sharp bends, and crushing forces, which can degrade performance over time . Maintain the minimum bend radius and avoid continuous coiling except in short lengths (≤100 ft). Use figure-eight configurations for unreeled cable to prevent kinking or twisting . Armored or loose-tube cables are recommended for direct burial, with armored cables providing extra protection against rocks, rodents, and construction stress .
