Distribution box 50 cable

A 50A cable can be safely connected to a distribution box by using an appropriately rated main MCB, RCCB, and proper cable sizing, ensuring secure phase, neutral, and earth connections.

Main Feeder Cable Selection

For a 50A load, the main incoming cable should have a cross-sectional area sufficient to handle the current without overheating. Typically, a 10–16 mm² copper cable is used for single-phase 50A circuits, depending on the installation method and insulation type . Both phase and neutral wires must be connected from the supply to the input of the main MCB.

Distribution Box Components

• Main MCB (Double Pole): Acts as the main switch and protects the entire distribution board. For a 50A supply, a 50A DP MCB is recommended .
• RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker): Provides protection against earth faults. Connect the output of the main MCB to the input of the RCCB.
• Single-Pole MCBs: Used for individual sub-circuits. Connect the phase wire from the RCCB output to each SP MCB input, and the neutral to the neutral bus bar.
• Earth Link: Connect the earth wire from the supply and all loads to the earth terminal in the distribution box .

Wiring Steps

2. Connect the phase and neutral wires from the 50A supply cable to the input terminals of the main DP MCB.
3. Connect the output of the main MCB to the input of the RCCB.
4. From the RCCB output, connect the phase wire to the SP MCBs for individual circuits and the neutral wire to the neutral bus bar.
5. Connect the earth wire from the supply cable to the earth bus bar and ensure all metallic parts of the distribution box are earthed.
6. Label all circuits for easy identification and future maintenance .
