What is a Fiber Optic Pigtail?

The connector end plugs into equipment, optical distribution frames (ODFs), or patch panels, while the bare end is fused or mechanically spliced to the network fiber . Tools and Equipment Required

To perform a professional splice, you will need:

Splicing Process

  3. Fusion Splicing: Place the fibers in the fusion splicer, which aligns and melts them together to form a low-loss joint .
  4. Protection: Apply a heat shrink sleeve or mechanical splice protector to secure the joint and prevent damage .
  5. Testing: Verify the splice quality using an optical power meter or OTDR to ensure minimal signal loss .
