Before laying out the cable, ensure the route is clear of obstacles, sharp edges, or uneven terrain that could damage the fiber during installation. Keep the cable clean by placing it on a plastic sheet or protective surface if it will contact the ground . Always check the manufacturer's specifications for minimum bend radius and maximum pulling tension to avoid damaging the fiber .
Do not pull the cable directly by its outer jacket. Most fiber optic cables contain strength members such as aramid yarn (Kevlar) or a central fiberglass rod. Use a pulling eye or grip attached to the strength members to safely unspool the cable . This prevents stretching or breaking the delicate glass fibers inside.
